Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement

Real voices shaping better research

We have had the privilege of bringing together an inspiring group of women to share their experiences, insights and perspectives with clinicians and researchers from the Joint Clinical Research Team [JCRT ] and the B-Norm research project.

This Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement work was built around a simple but powerful principle; research is stronger, more relevant and more meaningful when it is shaped with the people it is intended to serve.

Listening to lived experience

The women who joined us brought honesty, generosity and courage to the conversation. They spoke openly about their experiences to help shape and develop the study going forward.

Their contributions provided real-world insight; by hearing directly from people with lived experience, researchers were able to reflect on the language they use, the questions they ask and the way research can be designed to feel more inclusive, respectful and human.

Working in partnership

Working alongside JCRT and the B-Norm research project, we were proud to support a meaningful conversation between researchers and members of the public. The session demonstrated the value of partnership, trust and thoughtful engagement, ensuring that public involvement was not an add-on, but a central part of the research process.

Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement is about research being carried out with people, not simply about them. It gives communities an opportunity to influence how research is planned, delivered and shared, and it gives researchers the chance to learn from the people whose voices are often missing from the room.

Why real voices matter

Hearing real voices from real people helps research move beyond assumptions. It brings context, empathy and challenge. It helps researchers ask better questions, communicate more clearly and design studies that reflect the needs, concerns and hopes of the people they are working with.

We are incredibly grateful to the amazing women who gave their time, energy and experience so generously. Their voices will help shape research that is more grounded, more inclusive and more connected to the lives of the people it aims to benefit.
